IELTS (General Training) WRITING PRACTICE

I would attend the IELTS (General Training) test on Aug 15th. This post is for recording my practices on the Writing session. I hope this post could also help other examinees of IELTS although I might not be a good example as I almost have not prepared anything for the test. I would give multiple former IELTS (G) writing subjects and leave my compositions followed.

Some people believe the aim of university education is to help graduates get better jobs. Others believe there are much wider benefits of university education for both individuals and society. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

IELTS(G) Former Writing Topic – Example 1 of Task 2

In the recent decades, with the help from globalization and prosperity of economy, more and more people have chances to attend the university eduction. I believe that most people are realizing that the aim for university education is not only for getting better jobs.

There is no doubt that entering university and getting a diploma would help you to find a better job. A diploma is usually treated as the “door-knocker” for top companies and institutions. In a lot jobs descriptions, the candidates are required to have the bachelor degree or higher.

However, it is obviously not the only aim for the university education. First of all, university education is good for shaping a man’s manner and personality. In the university, young people would have chances to stay with the top talents of the society such as professors and public intellectuals, which would help them to see in which way a good man should act. The university would also have rules to restrict the students’ manner. If everyone’s manner is better, the society would be better. Besides that, a university is usually good for the culture atmosphere around the location. The people living around the university would also get chances to find a place to read books or attend the seminars, which would also make the society better. What’s more, with the help of globalization, a lot of people now have chances to attend universities abroad. For international students, learning in a foreign country would greatly broaden their horizon.

To sum up, university education is definitely not only good for individuals, but also for the society.

Some people think it is always an advantage to buy local products. Do you agree or disagree?

IELTS(G) Former Writing Topic – Example 2 of Task 2

I don’t think it is always an advantage for people to keep buying local products.

In the era of globalization, people can never buy a “local” product as the components of the product may come from different places. For instance, a car manufactured from local manufacturer cannot be simply be treated as a “local” product. The engine might be produced by a Japanese company and the gear box might from Australia. In this case, you will never be able to buy a fully “local” car.

Besides that, buying “better” products not “local” products is good for the positive competition in market. People should concern the features and quality rather than the origins of the products. In this case, the manufactures would concentrate on improving the quality and performance of the products. If every single company is focusing on innovation and improving themselves, the market would be more positive. And it would bring benefits to every single customer.

Buying local products would not protect their local companies and manufacturers. On contrary, it would damage local business. An unfair market environment is bad for the customers and the new start-ups. That is why all the country is banning monopoly.

I disagree that people should keep buying local products. It’s not only bad for the local companies but also for their competitors. People should build up a fair environment for the market to make our lives better.
